The New-York New-York Hotel and Casino was opened January 3,1997 and was a joint project between MGM Grand Inc. and Primadonna Resorts. The hotel and casino is located on the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Boulevard intersection on the Las Vegas Strip. Due to pedestrians being unable to cross the street at street level, there is an overhead bridge linking the New-York New-York to neighboring casinos such as the MGM Grand and Excalibur.
The New-York-New York Hotel and Casino’s architecture is meant to resemble the New York City skyline. In the front of the property, there is a lake which represents the New York Harbor, with a 150 ft. tall replica of the Statue of Liberty in New York. There is also 12 New York style skyscrapers, a 300 ft. Brooklyn Bridge, the Chrysler Building, and the Empire State Building. Other landmarks at the hotel include a replica of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Grand Central Station, the Main Immigration Building on Ellis Island, the September 11 tribute, and the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. The New-York New-York Hotel brings New York to Las Vegas.
Inside the resort mimics Times Square, Manhattan’s Park Avenue, Central Park, and the New York Financial District. All of the shops are modeled after Greenwich Village. Also inside is a Coney Island style roller coaster. The coaster has trains to resemble a traditional Checker color cab and travels throughout the hotels interior and exterior.
The New-York New-York offers attractions such as the erotic show Zumanity and The ESPN Zone which was recently remodeled and renamed the “Sporting House.” The Sporting House caters to sports fans as a restaurant with the upstairs full of sports themed games. There are close to 12 bars and nightclubs including Coyote Ugly, ROK Vegas, Nine Fine Irishment, Pour 24, the Center Bar, and the Central Park Piano Bar.
